Congratulations Mama, on the adorable new addition to your growing family. The "4th trimester" stage of motherhood is full of so many mixed emotions: unconditional love, exhaustion and adrenaline. It can seem almost impossible to schedule a photo shoot on top of it all. Don't worry though, my goal is to make your newborn session as effortless for you as possible. I offer sessions at your home or in my studio, which ever is easiest for you.
TIPS AND TRICKS
How To Have A Great Newborn Session
Whether your interested in a studio or lifestyle photo session, here's some tips and tricks to help create a safe and successful photo session.
Decide if you want to be in your newborns photoshoot Being a new mom is tough! Lack of sleep, body changes and exhaustion all play a roll. Decide ahead of time if you want to be in the photos, this way you have plenty of time to get yourself together.
Save feeding for right before the session starts Milk drunk is a real thing! Infants are easiest to pose and the happiest after being fed.
Pacifiers and white noise are our best friends Posing an infant can cause them to get frustrated, especially if they just want to sleep. Pacifiers and white noise are great calming tools.
Poop happens! Don't feel bad if your baby has a "blow out." I cant tell you how many times I've been covered (and my equipment) in poop and vomit. It just happens! We will clean up and keep going.
LET'S GET THIS RIGHT
Do's & Dont's For Your Newborn Session
Here's some do's and don'ts that will help ensure your satisfaction with your newborn session. If you have any further questions, Stephanie will be happy to discuss during your free consultation.
"DO" BRING PROPS OR SENTIMENTAL ITEMS
Whether its a blanket grandma has sewn, a stuffed animal that was moms when she was a baby, or even something engraved with your babies name. Bring them! It helps make your photos more meaningful.
"DONT" GET DISTRACTED WHILE SPOTTING YOUR BABY
It is extremely important that a parent is spotting the baby at all times. Newborns have reflexes they cant control and can jolt at any minute.
"DO" LEVEL SET ON EXPECTATIONS
Don't expect these sessions to be very camera trigger happy. Most of the time spent on a newborn session is comforting the baby, which is why these sessions take longer than others.
"DONT" PUT ON BABY'S CLOSE AN HOUR BEFORE
Babies clothes can leave tiny red marks on their soft precious skin. Keep your newborn wrapped in a towel or loose clothing for the hour up until your session.
"DO" KEEP THE BABY UP AN HOUR BEFORE THE SHOOT
Sleeping babies are easiest to pose. Keeping your baby up for the hour before the shoot ensures they will be sleeping through the session.
"DONT" KEEP THE ROOM COLD DURING YOUR SESSION
Most of the time we are photographing your newborn in their naked "birthday suit." It's important to keep the room warm as it keeps them calm. Space heaters are great during the winter months.
"DO" CLEAN THE NURSERY FOR LIFESTYLE SESSIONS
For newborn lifestyle sessions, we will be photographing in your nursery. Detail shots are included so make sure the room is cleaned, shelves are decorated and images are in your picture frames!
"DONT" WORRY ABOUT THE PHOTO PROPS
Whether your doing a studio session or lifestyle, don't worry about the props. We will have everything you need!
